Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnosis and Cold Laser Therapy

1.  How does Hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is the positive reprogramming of the subconscious mind.   The Hypnotherapist leaves new or better suggestions than you currently use to operate your daily routine behaviors.  Your subconscious then uses these suggestions to form new behaviors.

2.  Is it safe?

Yes, it is safe.  Hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association in 1958.  It has been used for years by Psychiatrists, Physicians, Counselors, Social Workers and Psychologists to treat mental and emotional problems.

3.  Are there any side effects?

The only side effect is that you sleep more soundly and awaken in the mornings with more energy.

4.  Do I go to sleep?

You do not sleep during Hypnosis; you enter the REM (rapid eye movement) level of consciousness, just before you slip into sleep.

5.  Will I remember it?

You will hear as much or as little as you wish to and will remember the same.

6. Does it work with one session?

In some applications, but not many.  The mind needs to hear the same or similar suggestions repeated until they are absorbed and actually replace the old habits or behaviors.  You also get better results working one-on-one and not in a group session.  Less effective is the use of pre-recorded tapes.

7.  Does cold laser therapy make hypnosis easier and more effective?

Yes, because when the endorphin levels are increased, cravings and anxiety are decreased.

8.  Does cold laser hurt?

No. You feel nothing and it takes only a few minutes, but the results on cravings and appetite suppression are long lasting.

9.  Can you force me to do things against my will?

No, you must be WILLING to participate.  No one can force you to do anything that is harmful to you or to others.

10.  Are all therapists equal?  Can they all work well with anyone?

Hypnotherapists are not equal and some are better suited to work with certain problems.  Education, experience and temperament are all extremely important factors when choosing the right Hypnotherapist.  Just like Doctors specialize, so do Hypnotherapists.

Ask your doctor for a referral.  Or call the Better Business Bureau for a referral.  Or ask family and friends if they have any personal experiences to help you choose a qualified therapist.  Be sure to ask your therapist which university they attended.

In addition, my practice uses alternative therapies such as cold laser.

11.  Is there a law about WHO should do Hypnosis as therapy?

The law in the state of Texas says that you must be a "licensed mental health provider" in order to practice Hypnosis as a therapy.   Most of the Hypnotists that advertise and practice Hypnotherapy are not licensed to do so.

12.  How are you different than other Hypnotherapists?

I am different because I am licensed as a Social Worker in Texas and am among a very limited number of Hypnotherapists in the Dallas Metroplex that are members of the Better Business Bureau.  I myself have used Hypnosis to successfully lose 57 pounds and keep it off for over 15 years and to deal with chronic back pain.

13.  Will you demonstrate on me?

It would be unethical for me to demonstrate on anyone.  A Hypnotist who entertains with Hypnosis can do so, but they are not doing therapy of any kind.  I only work one-on-one with my clients.  Therapy should be private and personal for each individual.  I never work in groups or with an audience.

14.  Am I a candidate for Hypnotherapy?

You must be willing to change and have an open mind and reasonable intelligence.  We all have a subconscious mind that we use everyday.  This morning when you brushed your teeth you ëautomaticallyí followed a pattern, just like you do every time you brush your teeth. That is your subconscious mind at work.  And your subconscious mind can be trained to make the changes you want in your life.  Take the Hypnosis Evaluation Test to see if you are a potential hypnosis candidate.

15.   Do some people fail to change?

If you fail to change it is because you are not ready or willing to make the changes.  It must be done for your benefit, not because your spouse or doctor said you had to change.

16.  How long before I see results?

You begin to see subtle changes right away.  Many people see 75% to 100% of the changes occur in less than one week.

17.  When is Hypnosis most effective?

Everyone knows Hypnosis works on Smoke Cessation and Insomnia, because it was popular over 25 years ago. But now we are using it to help people to lose weight permanently and to overcome stress and fears or phobias.  There are applications for everything from painless childbirth and surgery without anesthesia, to grieving losses and overcoming despair without prescription medications that always cause side effects.

18.  How do I contact Jhon H. Whitaker?
